Energy:

Much of mankind's progress has come because of our ability to harness energy for our use. From the discovery of fire to the splitting of the atom, our ability to produce energy has been both a source of survival and also a curse — triggering colonialism, exploitation, and even warfare.

Today, Green House Gases — primarily carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) — theaten our very existence on this planet. But in addition to GHGs from use of fossil fuels, there are other problems as well. Any power project poorly managed can be disasterous for some species and some peoples.

Here are some BIG ISSUES regarding Energy Production. Click on highlighted issues for more information:

1. Land destruction by resource companies and by some power projects massively displaces people and wildlife.

2. Large energy projects can cause issues that are either unforseen or deliberately ignored by developers.

3. Political action to lower green house gases has been slowed by spin, greenwashing, "not in my backyard", and propaganda.

4. End of life for fossil fuel production and transportation infrastucture is often abandoned at landowner or taxpayer expense.

5. Grid design and control are part of the problem, including grid vunerability to climate events.

6. Many viable solutions are not adopted on a large scale, and vested interests are part of the problem.
